PI Eligibility
Who is eligible to serve as a Baylor PI?
Because Baylor, as the grantee organization, depends upon the PI for so many aspects of award management, a PI must:
- Have a contracted appointment within a Baylor school, department, center, or institute
- Hold the title of tenure/tenure track faculty, center of institute staff, specialized research personnel, lecturer, or clinical faculty
- Meet proposal eligibility requirements
For example:
- Full time faculty are PI eligible
- Graduate students are eligible to serve as PI on fellowships with a faculty mentor
- Postdoctoral Scholars are not normally allowed as a PI unless the restriction is waived by the university.
- Staff are sometimes PI eligible if they meet eligibility requirements
Compliance Requirements
All PIs must meet compliance requirements. These include:
- Completing annual Conflict of Interest in Research disclosure
- Completing Responsible Conduct of Research education
- Completing Conflict of Interest education
- Completing Research Security Education
- Completing education relating to pertinent regulatory requirements (human or animal subjects, bio- and other safety)
- Participating in export controls processes, as needed
- Understanding all relevant Baylor policies
