Steps in Creating a Research Impacts Plan
How Can I Create My Plan?
Research Development personnel have experience in helping faculty create competitive plans and can help you find the partners and resources you need. Two tools that can help you write your plan are the ARIS Broader Impacts Wizard and the Research Impacts Toolkit. The ARIS Wizard helps you think through:
- Relevance: How do your Research Impacts integrate with your research? How does your plan solve a need? What will be the societal outcomes?
- Audiences: To meet your relevance goals, what audience(s) do you need to target? Is there a specific underrepresented group you want to engage?
- Activities: What would be the best method of engaging your target audience(s) effectively? Where and when should these activities take place?
- Partners: Who can you collaborate with to reach your audience and do your activities? What partners will help you accomplish this work?
- Support: What training, supplies or other support will you need to effectively engage your audience and do your activities?
- Cost: What costs do you need to include in your budget for your Research Impacts plan? Work with RI partner(s) to develop a plan and budget for activities. Work with your URA to incorporate RI costs in your proposal budget.
Evaluation: How will you know your activities have been successful? Every Research Impacts plan needs an evaluation strategy (see Research Impacts Toolkit for evaluation resources)
Write Your Research Impacts Plan and include collaborative partners in both your grant narrative and facilities page.
Letters of Collaboration: Share narrative and facilities with partners so that they can provide the NSF letter of collaboration or other funder-required Letter of Support on their business letterhead that confirms their agreement to participate as described.
