Grant Writing Seminars
Baylor STEM Grant Writing Workshop
The session will cover: 1) Baylor Grant Writing resources for finding, writing, and editing competitive grants; 2) Organizing and writing compelling grant narratives; 3) Best practices and templates for other grant components; 4) Grant writing tips for concise and effective sentences and paragraphs. In-person participants will receive a hard copy of Baylor’s Grant Writing Handbook and Broader Impacts Handbook and will have an opportunity to schedule a one-to-one consult about their grant writing plans. The workshop will be recorded for later viewing.

The seminar series is open to all full-time Baylor faculty members, postdoctoral researchers and research staff.
Virtual Grant Writing Workshop
This condensed version of the workshop will be offered for faculty who cannot attend in person and will be recorded for viewing afterward. Participants will be given a link to the pdf version of Baylor’s Grant Writing Handbook and Broader Impacts Handbook. The workshop will be recorded for later viewing. STEM Graduate Student Grant Writing Seminar
Eligibility
The seminars are open to all graduate students enrolled in a Baylor University STEM program.
Instructors
Steve Driese is Professor of Geosciences and currently serves as Associate Dean for Research in the Graduate School. He has offered the Grant-Writing Seminar once annually in the fall since 2006 at Baylor University.
Bill Hockaday, Associate Professor of Geosciences, is the co-instructor.
STEM Graduate Student Grant Writing Seminar
Fall Semester (2 sections)
This two-hour course offered for all STEM graduate students offered as GEO 5222 by S.G. Driese: Steven_Driese@baylor.edu emphasizes the development of grant-writing skills, preparation of an NSF-style Ph.D. dissertation proposal and PowerPoint presentation and submission of an NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program application.
