Why Baylor
Supporting Postdoc Growth
At Baylor, you’ll find resources and support for your growth as a researcher and as a person. Outstanding faculty mentors, well-appointed research facilities and talented undergraduate and graduate students—along with institutional support for scientific discovery—make Baylor an ideal destination for top postdoctoral scholars.
When we asked current Baylor postdocs to tell us about their experiences, many of them were quick to mention the caring and welcoming campus environment that made them feel right at home from their first day on campus. Whether you’re moving to Waco from across the state or around the world, you’ll find faculty, staff and students ready to extend a helping hand to make your transition as smooth as possible.
Many of our postdoctoral scholars describe their mentors as not just leading experts in their fields, but also as among the most caring and supportive people they’ve ever worked for. Our postdocs rave about their mentors’ dedication to helping them advance their careers and willingness to go above and beyond to contribute to their personal and professional development.
A Thriving Community
Baylor is located on the banks of the Brazos River in Waco, Texas. When you venture outside the campus, you’ll find a vibrant, growing community where social and recreational opportunities abound.
Many of our postdocs enjoy hiking in Cameron Park, walking or jogging along the Waco Riverwalk, attending festivals and outdoor musical performances at Indian Spring Park, and exploring a growing number of dining and nightlife options in downtown Waco. While Waco boasts a surprising number of attractions for a mid-sized city, its location just 90 miles from Dallas and Austin means big-city experiences are just a short drive away.
Postdocs whose families include young children will find plenty of fun, enriching activities. The on-campus Mayborn Museum offers hands-on science experiences for all ages including permanent attractions and a wide range of traveling exhibits. There’s also the Cameron Park Zoo, the Waco Mammoth National Monument, and recreational sports leagues.
Waco residents enjoy a high quality of life with a cost of living more than ten percent below the national average. Wacoans’ salaries provide 20% greater purchasing power than their counterparts in Dallas or Austin.
